Project details

Structural engineering services included the seismic retrofit and adaptive reuse of five-story, historic 1925 Army and Navy YMCA into multi-family housing.

Originally housing soldiers and sailors, it offered recreation, dining, and a dormitory. It became a civilian nursing home in the 1940s and was designated a historic landmark in 1982.

The new mixed-use facility provides 100 residential units (including affordable housing), a gym, restaurant space, courtyard, and patios. As the structural engineer, Structural Focus’ original role in the Harbor House project was to provide the initial 2018 due diligence and seismic evaluation in response to the City of L.A.’s 2016 seismic ordinance.
