Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

Beverly Hills, CA

Structural Focus developed the structural design of the new 550-seat Goldsmith Theatre, as well as the renovations to the historic Beverly Hills Post Office adjacent (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), both part of the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. The structural engineering effort was comprehensive and meticulous, requiring complex foundation work, careful restoration of the historic structure, ground-up design of the new theater, and precise coordination with the architect, acousticians, and mechanical engineers to ensure the highest acoustic performance. The new state-of-the-art performing arts building contains a full stage and facilities for voice, orchestra, and other performances. The historic post office building houses the main entrance lobby area, educational spaces, administrative offices, a 200-seat theater, box office, and other back of house functions for the facility. The pairing of the historic Post Office building with the strikingly modern design of the Goldsmith Theater is one of the most successful projects of its kind in Southern California.
