The Plaza Theatre, Palm Springs

Phase 1:  Working with Gensler, Structural Focus completed a seismic evaluation of the historic Plaza Theatre in 2018. The theatre, which originally opened in 1936, is designated a Class 1 Historic Site by the City of Palm Springs. Phase 2:  The restoration/renovation project of the theatre is currently under design with Architectural Resources Group as the lead consultant. The project involves designing a seismic retrofit of the building and various building upgrades that include all new MEP systems and auditorium seating area upgrades. for the project’s design phase, including designing a seismic retrofit of the building and various building upgrades with all new MEP systems and auditorium seating area upgrades. While the City of Palm Springs owns the facility, The Palm Springs Theater Foundation established the “Save The Plaza Theatre” fundraising drive to raise $16M for the full restoration and future management. The City will be able to host the Palm Springs International Film Festival, concerts, plays, and provide a community and educational center for local public schools.
