Structural Focus worked with John Fidler Preservation Technology (contracted by the Academy) on the rehabilitation of the historic building’s facade. The historic facade of the City designated Streamline Moderne structure built in 1939 consists of large limestone panels supported on steel shelf angles cast-in-place with the exterior concrete wall. The limestone panels spalled and cracked as the shelf angles corroded over time, requiring rehabilitation of the facade as a crucial part of the overall building seismic strengthening and adaptive reuse. The facade retrofit scheme utilized countersunk asymmetrical helical friction anchors to avoid alteration of the historic characteristics of the building. Featured Photo courtesy of David Cocke
